This how-to will show you how to fix the infamous HVAC control issue common on '00-'03 Dakotas and Durangos. Many of you out there have had to deal with it: you either get one speed on your heat/ac or you do not get low speed. Fear not! This how to has the needed but often hard to find part number and pictures explaining how to do this simple fix. As all Dakota how-to's, the truck shown is a 2003 SXT club cab. Tools 8mm socket Mopar Part Number 05061575AA view 2 , view 3, (www.moparpartsamerica.com highly recomended!)

Darwin's Warnings! As with all Carbone Racing technical how-to's, these are general guidelines we are not responsible for any harm you do to yourself or your vehicle. Keep in mind that the electrical system on your Dakota can hurt you if you are not careful, and you may need to take further precautions than listed in this how to. Don't be scared, but please use common sense and be safe when doing any automotive repairs.
And Away We Go 1) The resistor is located on the passenger side of the cab, under the glove box area. 2) Locate the two 8mm hex head screws by either feeling around or by taking a peak if you can. Remove the screws and pull the resistor and plug out of the housing. You can remove the plug and then unscrew the resistor, but it is not as easy. 3) Push the red tab on the plug over to unlock the resistor and separate the resistor from the plug. 4) Insert the new resistor into the plug and push the red tab back to lock in resistor. 5) Put the key in and test it! If it works, put the resistor and plug assembly back in the housing and screw in the 8mm screws. If it does not, make sure the resistor is plugged in all the way and correctly. |
